Sierramotion Expands STSA Axial Flux Motor Series with New Large Modular Motors

STSA-Axial-Flux-Motors-large

Sierramotion, an Allient Inc. Company, has today expanded its STSA Series of axial flux motors to include new large diameter modular motors up to 2 meter in diameter.

Delivered in arc-shaped segments, these motors are perfect for direct drive of large gantry robots for MRI/CT scanners, turrets, and satellite communication antennas. Slotless construction results in zero cogging torque and very smooth motion. Standard three phase construction allows these motors to operate from any Servo drive with input voltages from 24 to 350 volts DC.

A hybrid design that fits between rotary and linear motors, the STSA motor can also be used for limited angle operation by using a reduced number of arc segments. For example a large Gimbal that needs only 180 degree of motion could use the segments that make up this need and not have to deal with the large forces and heavy weight of a traditional motor in this size. A large through hole allows optics and RF equipment and any active sources for imaging and radiation (CT/MRI machines). Multiple coil sets can be used in parallel to add torque if required.
